Your Host Chef Paul Jalaf
Paul Jalaf, a Johnson and Wales graduate and former owner of Mezza on Mineral Spring, is back in the North Providence dining scene. This time Paul’s new place is twice the size and has quite a fond Rhode Island reputation. He is the new chef/owner of the North End Café on Charles Street, formerly Jimmy Burchfeild’s “The Classic”.
You must not be fooled by the name, the North End Café doesn’t just serve meatballs anymore. While you can still have great classic Italian dishes here like chicken parmagiana and clams zuppa the extensive menu is fused with dishes from many different cultures. Paul, originally from Lebanon considers his menu “Classic Italian meets modern Mediterranean”. Patrons love having the options of starting with classic calamari or trying hummus and pita chips, coconut balsamic shrimp or Italian grinder eggrolls.
After cooking in all aspects of the restaurant industry from making pizza’s in Connecticut to fine dining in New York City, Paul is excited to please North Providence and Rhode Island palates again. Paul is also giving back to the dining community by creating a huge gluten free menu to satisfy his many customers that suffer from celiac disease. Paul also has been a featured guest at local celiac disease support groups and also will give a cooking demonstration in September. Next time you are planning a night out of exciting dining come down to the North End Cafe and warm up with some of Paul's food and hospitality. You might even bump into his mom.
